There IS a single binary compatibility
libprotobuf-lite.so.8 vs libprotobuf-lite.so.7

But luckily you can install the Trusty version on Precise
http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/package/core/trusty/main/base/libprotobuf-lite8

Todo:
libFlac8 requirement to 1.2
Provide libprotobuf-lite8.deb along with Mixxx

I have just tested it on Precise and it works like a charm.
