renaming ~/.mixxx. solved the problem.

I cannot reproduce the issue.
I have just installed Mixxx 1.11.0 on Ubuntu 12.4 64 Bit.

And the memory footprint stays constantly at 76.5 MiB since one hour.

Please verify that the you select a "empty" Waveform from preferences and both spinnies are off .
Than restart Mixxx and check again.

Please try to start with a fresh database. This cane be don by rename
the hidden folder  Mixxx will create a new one when started.
