It's partly for cross-platform support but mostly so we do not have to
support every API in Mixxx since PortAudio is a wrapper around each
individual OS's set of APIs (ALSA, OSS, JACK, DirectSound, ASIO, WASAPI,
WDMKS, CoreAudio, etc.). We would greatly prefer to solve this within
PortAudio rather than adding back in dedicated JACK support.

The problem is I don't have a solid description of what needs to change in
PortAudio so I'm not sure what your bug report would say.
