BTW mir_demo_standalone_render_to_fb can be run on Mir-on-X. Vis:

$ mir_demo_server&
$ mir_demo_standalone_render_to_fb --no-file --host $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/mir_socket

So can mir_demo_standalone_render_surfaces (the same way)
