Bug Description

Crashes at various times, e.g. when scanning through menus.

System:

uname -a
Linux sparky 3.16-3-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.16.5-1 (2014-10-10) i686 GNU/Linux

This is running on a 64 bit desktop (intel i5-3470 based).

System error messages:

Mar 25 17:01:32 sparky kernel: [ 1764.731841] midori[1521]: segfault at 4 ip b76796f5 sp bf8da0d0 error 4 in libmidori-core.so.0.0.0[b75ee000+d2000]

Mar 25 17:01:32 sparky rsyslogd-2359: action 'action 18' resumed (module 'builtin:ompipe') [try http://www.rsyslog.com/e/2359 ]

When/if I encounter another crash, I'll update this report.

Please provide your version of Midori. There was a crash when opening the Edit menu in a previous version which has been fixed in 0.5.9.

I've just attempted to update the bug report (with the text below), but
when attempting to 'Post Comment' I get an arror message as per the
attached.
----------------------------------------------
Sorry, forgot the obvious there!

0.5.8

0.5.9 doesn't seem to be available for Debian, though it is for Ubuntu &
Linixmint (both Debian based) via repository ppa:midori/ppa. So I guess I
could use the same repository to update/reinstall.

I took the easy option and used the latest version that was available in
the .deb file format. The latest version in the Debian repositories is 0.4.3

On a separate note altogether, could I make a suggestion (though I
appreciate that this is probably the wrong place to do so). I'm testing
this browser, for my wife who uses an old Dell D610 laptop, as a
lightweight alternative to Firefox/Chrome etc. So far as I have tested, it
does indeed appear to use less memory. However, on opening, all tabs
previously open before closing appear to reload, which seems a waste of
resource to me (what seemed like a good idea at midnight the previous night
might be a total waste of time the next day). So would it not be a good
idea to reload each tab as required, i.e. when opened (as per Firefox).
Just a thought. Or perhaps Midori can already be configured to do so; I
haven't got that far yet.

On the "startup" tab of the preferences dialog you can choose to "Show last tabs without loading" which I believe does what you're suggesting.

Old versions in Debian is a known problem that we'd love to get fixed, but I don't know if there's been progress made on that front recently.

Thank you for your quick response and the tip.

Tried to upgrade to 0.5.9 via the PPA (for Ubuntu & Linuxmint) but failed
with a shed load of errors, that I can reproduce and post if you wish.

Regards,

John.
