Bug Description

I'm on ubuntu 12.04, all updates applied. me-tv-1.4.0.9
I managed to scan the Astra satellite and to produce a channels.conf with w_scan.
The channels.conf looks good.
I also managed to import this channels.conf into me-tv, at least all the channels
appear in the channels window.
But what now ? Whenever I select a channel nothing happens. Black screen and no sound.
Starting the client with -v is not really informative. Once and a while me-tv spits out
hundred of lines of an xml-channel-listing. Thats it. So what can I do ?

dmesg | grep dvb
[ 5.048723] dvb-usb: found a 'Technisat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI' in cold state, will try to load a firmware
[ 5.117217] dvb-usb: downloading firmware from file 'dvb-usb-az6027-03.fw'
[ 5.194559] dvb-usb: found a 'Technisat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI' in warm state.
[ 5.194611] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
[ 7.366235] dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 400 msecs.
[ 7.366238] dvb-usb: Technisat SkyStar USB 2 HD CI successfully initialized and connected.
[ 7.366264] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_az6027

Hi Mr. No-TV,

Try installing "VLC". If it's not working, joint the output of the command
"me-tv-client -v".

Cheers,
Frederic

I can confirm the same here. Tested on two different computers, two different Linux supported tuners.

Ubuntu 12.04 x64
MeTV 1.4.0.9 from ppa:me-tv-development/ppa
VLC installed

Configuration channels.conf is correctly loaded, but no audio/video shows, only black window.

Did you installed the package "vlc"?

here comes the output of me-tv -v
and yes, I have vlc installed.

I also have me-tv @ppa + vlc on fresh install precise and use dvbt device over usb. The application starts, video ok, sound ok, but as soon as i try to configure something and save that the application hangs. It may also hang when i switch the channel, but this may happen, is not really reproducable. Logs with -v show always that it hangs at "Reading data", like in the second last line of log in #5.

People with a lot of channel (more then a few hundred) seams to experience some problem. I'll try to reproduce this but I don't have many channel here.

Can someone try the version 1.3.7 (from the source code) to see if this problem is generate by the new architecture ?

Thanks,
Frederic

I tried to load a smaller channels.conf.
Besides the fact, that it's very painfull to load a channels.conf because of many crashes and freeezes
there was no other result: no sound , no picture, nothing.
Has this application really been tested on ubuntu 12.04 ?

where do I get 1.3.7 ?
If I go to "All downloads" there is only a 1.3.6.

so here are the results for me-tv-1.3.7:

first of all: no sound, no picture.
At least I get some more information on stdout:

it says the same for every other video driver.

The "me-tv-player (xine): Failed to initialise video driver 'xshm'" is really weird; the Debian built /usr/bin/me-tv-player does not suffer this problem. I am investigating this as I have to have a resolution to it before doing the GTK+2 to GTK+3 change.

I should not that it is not an xshm thing since the same problem happens with opengl driver. At least on Debian. On Fedora everything is fine with my build of the forked 1.3 branch I am working on.
