unsubscribe link on package page

Once I've subscribed to all bugmail for a given package, the "Subscribe to bugmail" link should turn into "Unsubscribe from bug mail".

This does not seem to be the case right now.

For instance, I subscribed to the bugmail for:

Speaking with my upstream hat on this has become a serious annoyance for me: I subscribed to several of the packages I maintain in Debian but now find myself unable to avoid a continual flow of Ubuntu specific bug mail that I find I'm not interested in.

Mark, this bug is just about changing the label. You can unsubscribe easily using the same page you used to subscribe.

As far as I can tell from the description of the report and the available links on the pages this bug is not just about the labels for the links but rather the fact that the links just plain don't exist. I certainly haven't ever been able to find one but since I appear to have neglected to memorise which pages I used to subscribe to package bugs I can't actually confirm that - if you could provide a sample link that would be helpful.

Clicking around the package pages doesn't reveal anything but given the number of different pages it's always possible that such a link exists somewhere. I've tried https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/<package> (which gives an option to subscribe), https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/<package> (which lists subscribers and has a subscribe link but also doesn't have any visible link).

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/<package> has the link that is
the subject of this bug. It is labeled 'Subscribe to bug mail', but
allows you to unsubscribe too. That is the point of this bug.

Right, that's sufficiently non-obvious that it is actually the same bug I have - the feature is present but it's sufficiently obscure that it looks like it's not present.

The present situation is confusing.

I was wondering for quite some time why I'm still receing bug reports after deactivated myself from the project.

Greetings!

  Please pardon my writing to you, but I see you are subscribed to the Ubuntu Openffice "Bug Reports," and have a problem I hope you can help me with.

  Some time in the past I must have (?) subscribed to the Bug Reports for openoffice.org in Ubuntu. Each day I now about a dozen of unwanted OpenOffice Bug Reports (such as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ bugs/512194).

 At the bottom of each report is the message: "You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to openoffice.org in ubuntu." I no longer wish to receive these Bug Reports but have looked and looked and cannot find how or where to unsubscribe.

Can you please tell me how to unsubcribe to openoffice.org in Ubuntu? Must I unsubcribe to each report INDIVIDUALLY, or is there one place I can unsubscribe to ALL?

You help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I can imagine this user following the link from comment 9 and saying, "What was Mr. Grant talking about? All I can do from this page is subscribe, and I want to UNSUBSCRIBE!"

This goes beyond changing the link from Subscribe to Unsubscribe. The content on the page itself, from the headline ("Subscribe...") to the warnings about how you might get a lot of mail, reinforces the idea that it thinks you're not subscribed and it's offering to let you subscribe.

To UNSUBSCRIBE, you have to make the mental leap to see that UN-CHECKING the checkmark and clicking Save Changes will remove your existing subscription.

A couple of word changes would help. At a minimum, somebody could add "Un-check this box and save your changes to unsubscribe" near the checkbox.

Why has this bug been marked as won't fix? It seems like an obvious usability issue and there's no explanation been given.
