In the build/ folder. e.g. /tmp/mail-notification-5.4.dfsg.1/build/build.log .
For me, executing `./jb configure` does show ssl as enabled.

I suspect this is connected to schemas and bonobo.
Try restarting bonobo or more drastically rebooting.
