Bug Description

Upgraded to Mahara 1.40 this summer. Users are taken to a default "my name's blog" when clicking on the journal link under the content tab - with no option to add a new journal or to display any others that they might have created. If the same users click on the "Publish a Journal' link on the dashboard the button to create a new journal, and any other journals are also visible. The hyperlink from each of these two links appears to be the same.

I've encountered the issue when working with staff who had Mahara accounts before the upgrade, as well as new students - when clicking on either link, I (the administrator) see the option to create a new journal and all my existing journals, but others who have a second journal don't see it when clicking on the journal link under the tabs.

I've found the reference to opting to have multiple journals from the individual's acount settings but this issue is really confusing our users who are encouraged to keep separate journals for different purposes. If I had option to enable multiple journals globally by default that would help - but users should see the all of their journals and ideally the same 'create' option from the tab link that they see from the dashboard.

Hi Gordon,

Is the problem here that there is no sitewide default for enabling multiple journals, or was there another bug here?

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

Its two-fold.
Having a site-wide option for enabling multiple journals would make administration easier, but the main issue is that users clicking on the journal link from the navigation tabs are being taken to a different display of the journal - even people with multiple journals can only see the single default journal and can't access their existing work OR add a new journal. Clicking on the dashboard link to journals instead brough up the correct display of their existing journals, and also included a button to create new journals.

I now suspect there's an IE9 issue at play rather than admin/non-admin as we've encountered lots of problems recently where someone on IE8 or firefox doesn't encounter the problem, but as IE9 is gradually rolled out by our IT Dept more people start to report problems.

Cheers, Gordon.

Hi Gordan,

I've just tested this with IE9 following your description, and when I browse to <site>/artefact/blog/ I do indeed see both journals for the user.

To clarify, are users unable to see what I've captured in the attached screenshot?

Thanks,
Melissa

The fix for bug #795307 added a redirect which also fixed this bug (see commit c84bed6c07).
