How about this instead:

    * Home is displayed but it's not a link when you're in your homedir
    * Home turns into a link when you enter subdirectory1
    * Subdirectory1 is not a link unless you enter once of its children suddirectories"

The reporter of this bug is happy with that solution, so we'll do that instead.
