At the time of the 1.6 release we hadn't specified any supported web browsers, and at the time of the 1.7 release we simply said "latest version" for all the non-IE ones. So, since it would be too much of a hassle to look up what was the latest version of FF, Chrome, and Opera on Apr 19, 2012, I've just omitted the "web browser" part when adding the system requirements to the 1.6 and 1.7 README files.
