Hi,

Thanks for the information.
Looks like this is an installation of pythia8.
The interface between PY8 and MG5aMC is not present (and the error message needs to be improved and will be)

so to fix your issue you need to run (within mg5amc)
install mg5amc_py8_interface

Cheers,

Olivier

Dear Oliver,
Thanks for the advice. But when I run install mg5amc_py8_interface,the terminal can not connect hepmc.web.cern.ch.By the way, when I install pythia8,I got the same thing. So maybe the question is how to successfully install pythia8.

thanks,

Hi,

I just tested now and the link is correct and up.

Now depending of your location/... you might be block by a firewall (which would be weird since this is a cern website). You can maybe try to use a VPN if you think that this is the issue.

Cheers,

Olivier

I'm not sure what you are worried about.
But let me comment on the two warning present in your log:

Warning in <TTree::Bronch>: Using split mode on a class: TRootWeight with a custom Streamer

So this is a Root related warning, likely because you are running the (very old) ExRootAnalysis code which convert your event file to root. I have not idea on that code, but I would bet that for the moment such warning is not a real issue (but it might be for future version of root)

This is a pure firefox issue and not related at all to our code (just reported here because we started the firefox process)

Hi Jie,

From this log file, it seems that your event file is a faulty one. Do you mind sharing it so that we could do some further tests?

Cheers,

Benjamin

Hi,

The warning messages were connected to some issues with our LHE reader that didn't know what to do with the clustering blocks now in the mg5 LHE output. This is fixed in ma5 v1.9. Please reinstall madanalysis 5 from the following command:
  install MadAnalysis5 --madanalysis5_tarball=https://madanalysis.irmp.ucl.ac.be/raw-attachment/wiki/MA5SandBox/ma5_v1.9.6.tgz

Concerning the other issue, I think that this is related to matplotlib. Can you try to browse the MadAnalysis5 output folder, and run the python scripts generating the plots. I am quite sure an error message will be printed to the screen.

Cheers,

Benjamin

Hi Benjamen,

As is also reported in Bug 1898890, I install MA V1.9.6 manually by
overwriting the folder HEPTools/madanalysis5/madanalysis5. I still see the
same problem concerning the PDF outputs.

For testing the matplotlib, which python code should I use to generate the
plots?

Best regards,
Jie

Hi Jie,

Can you please start MadAnalysis5 outside MadGraph by going to the right folder and typing in:
./bin/ma5 -d <your script that could be the same as the one created by MadGraph>
That will run the code in debug mode, with in particular printing a lot of information to the screen. Could you please put everything that is printed in a text file and forward it to me? Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Hi Jie,

Thanks a lot. That is very useful. Please find below a few comments and requests so that we could move on with this issue.

1. Can you please share with me the files:
  /afs/cern.ch/work/j/jfeng4/public/LHC/madanalysis5/ANALYSIS_1/Output/PDF/MadAnalysis5job_0/latex2.log
2. Do you mind listing what is inside the directory
  /afs/cern.ch/work/j/jfeng4/public/LHC/madanalysis5/ANALYSIS_1/Output/HTML/MadAnalysis5job_0/
3. Can you list what is inside the directory
  /afs/cern.ch/work/j/jfeng4/public/LHC/madanalysis5/ANALYSIS_1/Output/Histos/MadAnalysis5job_0/
4. In this last directory, can you execute the goROOT script and copy the screen output.

Thanks!

Cheers,

Benjamin

I meant latex.log. I had a look directly to the log file on the CERN system, and there is something weird with the pdflatex log. From what I understand, the crash is due to the empty selection_0.png file. It is therefore connected to the issue of having the figures non generated.

This confirms the above. Empty figure files are generated.

This shows that there is some issue with your ROOT installation, so that the images cannot be created by MadAnalysis 5. The clash of libpng versions that we can read from the log file is at the origin of the issue. I think that the ROOT version that you have used has been compiled with a different version of libpng from the one now on the system. A way out would be to reinstall ROOT within the current system.

Benjamin
