FYI @Shantur I tested this patch and while it fixes Ubuntu deployments, it does break custom image deployments. It seems you also need to update https://github.com/canonical/maas/blob/47d6a6779118cc3087a0f23e9d9b9541b10507f5/src/maasserver/preseed.py#L532 to fix this.
