Sorry for the delay in responding to this. As Chrisitian correctly assumed in his first paragraph, yes to get this to work for x86 we needed two serial consoles and I assume this was was the case without testing out the second xml snippet. Just tried it and it worked so will be pushing this to MAAS. Cheers.
