I just though of another possibility. We could use a similar verse focus indicator similar how www.theword.gr does it. It encloses the currently read verse in square brackets [ verse.. ], when clicking the >> to show the next verse the brackets could then retain focus on the second last verse. This may help retain where the reading is up to?

Also not sure if I should start a new report for this, feel free to do so or tell me to. Recently someone asked the whole group to read two chapters together out loud which was quite a challenge using Lyricue, in the end the whole group had to pause while we advanced enough to display another full screen of versus. While the lengthy pause was unnatural we found this easier than trying to read and loosing our place as the next verse was added. On this particular occasion having a "next screen full" of versus function would of been great. I'm a big fan of keyboard commands for speed and efficiency, perhaps we should all collaborate on a bunch of key commands, I suggest something like this:
- - - -
Right (right arrow) for next verse
Ctr+Right for next screen full of versus

Up for next chapter single verse
Ctr+Up for next chapter full screen of verses
- - - -
And I think logically if you hold down the Shift key with any of the above commands it does the same in reverse, ie. skip back one verse / chapter / screen full etc.
