The reporter does not say if there was a problem that caused him/her to try uninstalling so I cannot speculate much here. However, it is known that some or all versions of Vista do not use a boot.ini file. Instead they verify the MBR has not been altered and use something called BCD data to build boot menus, etc. This issue could be related to that scenario.
