Bug Description
when I try start live cd Linux LXDE my HP nc8000 laptop, then cd not start gui (starx). Only terminal mode work. And I can't fix it on by my self.
This happens if the X desktop process (lxdm) has stopped/crashed. By now, the developers should know why this happens.
But you still have the terminal, and you can use it to to try to re-start the desktop, by running:
sudo lxdm
That will probably start the entire desktop process - if it does, then you should be able to try to start your network and from there install Linux Mint LXDE 12. You will then need to run software updates if you are using the Release Candidate (RC) ISO disk. Then you should be able to use it !
Hi joubuntu. We have just discussed this in the LinuxMint LXDE web site.
The live disk you mention is not running quite right on some machines, yours and mine for instance, because lxdm, the Desktop manager process, is being stopped just before you see the terminal. It may be crashing, or being stopped by the disk startup program, (who knows ?) but I'm sure they'll fix it soon.
In the meantime, you can probably re-start the Desktop from the terminal, because it will have checked over your machine and be ready to go. You have to be the "root" user to do the command, but the Live Disk will let you run "sudo" to do this, because you haven't installed your system yet.
So, at the terminal prompt, which looks like this
mint@mint ~$
just type
sudo lxdm
then press Enter
For me, that brought up the complete lxde desktop, with the Network menu button at the bottom of the screen to allow you to connect to WiFi if you don't have a wired connection, and the "Install" button to click once you are connected.
Good luck: I hope this also works for you.
