firefox pulls in firefox-l10n-af "Afrikaans" language pack by default

I installed a barebones base (nothing selected on the expert installation tasksel screen) debian stable system, pointed it to the linuxmint debian repo's and dist-upgraded to them. Everything works perfect!

However ... Firefox pulls in firefox-l10n-af... It runs with menus and preference screens in some language I do not understand ... dpkg-reconfigure shows only english selected...

Firefox comes up in english if I install firefox-l10n-en-us ... But shouldn't it be honoring the default language of the system? dpkg-reconfigure shows only english selected.

I started with the latest debian-stable, changed my sources.list to the following and dist-upgraded to it:

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
deb http://debian.linuxmint.com/latest testing main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org testing main non-free

I did do an "apt-get install linuxmint-keyring debian-multimedia-keyring" before the dist-upgrade to get the gpg keys ... Is this a bug?

I think FF install is incorrectly parsing the language section in
pref.js

i am using crunchbang linux and installed firefox and thunderbird via the linux mint debian repositories. i experienced the same issue.

the repo i used was:
deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main import upstream

synaptic automatically installed afrikaans for firefox and arabic for thunderbird, the first packages along in alphabetical order.
