System freezes when resuming from Monitor Sleep on Mint 11

Bug Description

After installing Mint 11 RC, I set up the Matrix Screensaver that comes with the system. I set the screensaver to become active at 15 min, then for the monitor to turn off at 30. I also set for prompting password on resume. In most cases after the monitor has gone to sleep and you attempt to wake the system, the screensaver is frozen, and the system becomes unresponsive, forcing a hard reboot to log back into the system. This doesn't happen all the time, and you can't force it on demand, it seems to happen at random, but very frequently.

This could be something related to the Intel mobile graphics on my HP Laptop, as I also experience some heavy Open GL problems when attempting to use Compiz. Most of the settings I was able to use under Mint 10 do not work under Mint 11, and it has a really hard time trying to render OpenGL. I had some pretty decent issues with Cairo Dock as well when running under OpenGL.

I have this bug on my desktop and my friend has it on his laptop.
Both computers have Intel integrated graphics and Linux Mint 11 installed.
When computer freezes I'm able to switch to console with Ctrl+Alt+F1, but killing screensaver process does not help.
If I restart xserver with Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and then login everything works.

The bug is quite random but occurs mainly when sleep time is about 30 minutes or more.

Ubuntu has similar problem:

Can someone, when this happens, do the following (print):

ctrl+alt+print+r
ctrl+alt+F4
(login)
Enter: "top", hit enter.
Press "Q" on the keyboard.
List the top 5 processes (write down), and the %cpu each is using.

"sudo shutdown 0 -P" (safely shuts down the computer, but you still lose unsaved documents)

I have this problem on a Lenovo T520 running LinuxMint 12.

After sitting idle (e.g. a few hours or overnight) when I try to wake (via key press or mouse movement)
the screen is completely blank (white, not black). Nothing that I type does anything. Have not tried the
incantation specified by Intel_iX written 2011-12-05 yet.
