Bug Description
GDM3 configuration files are the part of gdm3 package. The gdm3 package comes from Debian repos. Hence, config files are replaced and the default theme and wallpaper are changed if the user chooses to replace the package. The default action during the update is "Keep", but still the user may not know what happens if it is replaced and how to get the old GDM look back if replaced.
A solution can be to maintain the package gdm3 in Linux Mint repos.

Hi, thank you for reporting this issue!
This behavior was witnessed on several test machines,
so I'm able to confirm this. However a more elegant
solution to this would be to use the Linux Mint
Adjustments System as opposed to maintaining
GDM3 itself.
This and other "default setup" issues will be
resolved in a future release. Thank you for
taking the time to report this issue and improve
the Linux Mint project !
