The calendar appears with too much offset above the clock

It is not a serious bug, it's mostly a bugging bug.

1) I am using Linux Mint 10 RC
2,3) When clicking on the date/time/weather applet in the tray the calendar appears way above the tray.
4) I believe the calendar should be shown right above the date/time/weather applet.
5) The problem happens always (if resolution is set above 800x600).

I am running LM10 on a netbook with a resolution of 1024x600. Also, when I unlocked the calender to move the position from extreme right to another place, it successfully moves. But when I wanted to get it back to its original place, its not going. Its pretty irritating. I am not aware of any other way of resetting the contents of taskbar.

I'm using an Asus X5AV Laptop with Mint 10 (not the rc version) 64 bit.
The screenshot is from when I select one location, then close the calendar and open it again.
It goes even higher on the screen.

Indeed, it seems to be compiz related. When I disable the effects, the calendar appears where it should.

I have the same bug in Mint 10. Murali's temporary workaround didn't work for me. All windows were opening at the bottom. Dave's link worked.

However if it helps someone here is what triggered the problem it for me: installed nvidia's restricted drivers. Before installing the drivers everything was fine.

Goto the 'Window Management' category
Open 'Place Windows' settings
Goto the 'Fixed Window Placement' tab
In the 'Windows with fixed positions' section, click on the 'New' button
In the 'Edit' dialog, add "title=Calendar" (no quotes) in the 'Positioned windows' box
Slide X and Y Positions all the way to the right
Check the 'Keep in Workarea' checkbox
Close

This is definitely a Compiz bug, as it also affects Ubuntu, and not just Linux Mint. It's very apparent in Linux Mint though because by default the clock is on a bottom panel. However, if you move the clock to the bottom panel in Ubuntu as well, the same problem occurs.

I was planning on installing Linux Mint 10 64-bit, so that's what I'm going to do right now and then try out the fix.

@jojo try unlocking all of the applets between the clock you moved and the position that you want it to be, then locking them once repositioned.

As far as I can tell locking the applets (the default ones are all locked) prevents other applets from being moved past them.

Thank u, Murali, ur workaround works. I'm running Zorin OS 4, where the Calendar is also on the bottom panel by default. Interestingly, in Zorin OS 3, the layout was the same, but the Calendar was placed correctly.... hmmm
