Bug Description

olivia to petra in-place package upgrade does not upgrade the script:
/etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh

which means that cinnamon-settings-daemon is not detected and default actions are taken. when the power button is pressed, the system is shut down ignoring power settings.

workaround: manually upgrade the script.
edit /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh:
-PMS="gnome-settings-daemon kpowersave xfce4-power-manager"
+PMS="cinnamon-settings-daemon gnome-settings-daemon kpowersave xfce4-power-manager"

edit:
WORKAROUND DOES NOT WORK! something else is up here.

This method of upgrade isn't officially supported (http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/2 & http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/62), not sure if this would be better off posted on the forum, as I don't see how a fix would be implemented in the existing Petra packages

hola! i know it is not. however, it seems that there is still a bug in some package definition, as package upgrades *should* work, even if not supported. maybe the team wants to investigate the problem. it is not such a minor issue btw, and i could not fix it myself so far. and in the end i guess people will create a new bug if they do not find it here.

btw i have a hunch about a certain config file, name of which i do not remember now :) i will try and test if i have the time.

I see what you're saying, and whether it could form part of a post-install hook to check /etc/acpi/powerbtn.sh
I guess that comes down to a packaging issue rather than a bug in the package itself
