Newest as in latest bzr or latest release (linuxdcpp-1.0.3)?
I'd suspect you have incorrect character encoding set and the bot discards badly formatted messages or that the chatroom nick contains non-ascii characters and linuxdcpp tries to send the messages to wrong nick (assuming this is NMDC and you're using wrong character set).
