There's nothing to stop you from learning a programming language and joining in development yourself if you wanted.
The majority of developers are currently overwhelmed with work because of how close it is to the release of Oneiric, and this issue seems to affect a relatively small number of people, so there are higher priority bugs to deal with.
I would suggest sending it upstream to the Linux Bugzilla, but the site is down at the moment TFN.
