Does pressing the "disable sound" hardware button actually mute the sound? If not, the latest upstream kernel 2.6.37-rc1 may help. From the changelog:

ALSA: HDA: Add fixup pins for Ideapad Y550
By adding the subwoofer as a speaker pin, it is treated correctly when auto-muting.
