Go ahead and gloat - you deserve it! But when you're done, how about being a good, upstanding Linux community member and post some of your system specs so that I can compare them with mine? :^)

Specifically, what kernel are you running ("uname -a") and what processor? A copy of /var/log/messages after a fresh boot (and after plugging in the Arduino) would help too.

P.S., I contacted the support engineer at FTDI, and he said that the latest (1.5.0) driver should work fine under 64-bit Ubuntu, but he hasn't actually tried it (says he doesn't have a 64-bit machine to try it on). He also sent the source for that version of the driver. I tried to compile it with the make file that he included, but got a bazillion errors. I'm sure there's some secret incantation I have to add to the makefile to get it to compile under my specific setup, but I have no idea what it is. All of the errors are buried in header files that are already on my system, not in the driver itself. If one of you C++ programmers can help I would be very grateful!
