I have the same problem, ubuntu 9.10 2.6.31-14-generic amd64
Sometimes my system just freeze, and i can't do anything, i just push reset button

Either Enable ECC in the BIOS, or use the 'ecc_enable_override' parameter.
Might be a BIOS bug, if BIOS says ECC is enabled
Use of the override can cause unknown side effects.
