I have a DELL XPS-8940 and both a usb mic or 3.5mm jack mic do not work. They are detected by the operating system and listed in Input section of sound settings, but they do not work, no sound is detected when talking or recording.

The strange thing is that the mic on my Logitech Webcam C310 works just fine.
