I have the same/similar problem where a fresh install of Mint 18.2 64b locks up tight and requires a hard reset via the power button. This happens randomly at differing intervals. The system info is:

I have the same distro version of Mint installed on a 8 core AMD PC and it has to date not exhibited the same behavior.
