Got here searching about the same bug, but it's Mint 18. I just switched from Mate, never ever had this issue with previous LTS version and Mate. I am currently D/Ling Mint 18 Mate and will keep using it.

Similar experience to what others have said. Some random amount of time, especially when intensive tasks are run, or when more than one thing is going, computer freezes. No KB, no "Ctrl-Alt-F1," No mouse. Nothing. Have to hold the Power Button to reset, and I lose whatever I was doing. Obviously this is a non-starter.

It's a bit worse if multiple things are running, or if I have a dock going (it lasts a little longer with neither Docky nor Cairo installed). However, there's no telling if I'll even finish typing this before it freezes.

Am using Acer ES1-111, Pentium 3540 processor. I love this PC, have had it for two years, and this is the first issue I'm having since I solved everything with UEFI and secure boot and got everything running stable after I got it.

Am going to go ahead and post this so I don't lose my text to a system freeze.
