I just applied the updates, restarted the computer
uname - a shows 3.2.0-51-generic

then I shut it down, then pressed the power on , and the mouse was NOT recognised, had to manually unplug the usb mouse from the computer and plug it back in again for the mouse to work like before.
Then I tried again, shut it down and started the computer, same thing the mouse was NOT recognised.

Hopefully other people will have better luck,.
