I believe with the LT 3.1 kernel for imx53, the needed options have been turned on. Patrik, could you verify it's still failing?

i.Mx53 kernel config was updated to support DS-5 tools via https://bugs.launchpad.net/linaro-ubuntu/+bug/877242 . Perhaps the config has not made it's way into Linaro Android?

Is there a hard requirement to support DS-5 in the LT kernels ? If so, can we get access to it so that we can test it?

There is a requirement to have the kernel modules required built to support DS-5. DS-5 can be downloaded from ARM, and you can request a license from Stephen Doel.

Having the right kernel configs for Linaro Android is critical for ARM / DS-5 support. We intend to publish details of such support on www.arm.com against the DS-5 product pages with a link to the Android builds from Linaro for partner platforms. It is important that we get the change implemented in the Snowball, Origen & imx53 kernel configs so that https://blueprints.launchpad.net/linaro-android/+spec/linaro-android-arm-ds5 can be unblocked and delivered for 11.11.

For your information.

ARM Development Studio 5 (DS-5) is now only supporting Ubuntu Desktop Edition 10.04 32-bit hosts in Ubuntu.
People who has been working on Android usually uses 64-bit Ubuntu Edition. So these people need another 32-bit Ubuntu or windows machine as well as DS-5 hardware.

Thanks for the info Sangwook

To get the module to build within the kernel should not require these
external platforms. Once the build is fixed we can then look at
testing the functionality

The config options have been enabled in Freescale's LT kernel, and gator module can be built fine. (gator-module-dkms from ppa:linaro-maintainers/arm-ds5). However, the gator kernel module cannot be properly inserted due to missing symbols. The problem is that it needs to be updated to reflect recent kernel changes to the pmu part (bug #877242). We'll mark this bug as "Fix Committed" for freescale LT.

The 2011.10 release of vexpress-a9 had the correct config. The 2011.11 release testing of gator verified this.
