aplay DOES work on 12.02 linaro-ubuntu, however arecord doesnt seem to work.

I also observed that sound settings dialog doesnt show changes in signal strength when speaking over mic while its connected, however, it does show varying signal while connecting/disconnecting the mic over jack, which makes me feel that my audio jack is faulty which need not be the reason for arecord failure.
