Bug Description

After entering the password, password field grays out and user has to wait ~5-10 seconds for lightdm to start loading the desktop. Sometimes it just starts instantly, sometimes user has to wait for any HDD activity.

To clarify; it didn't happen in early alpha stage. Some update broke this. After I enter the password I can even try to log in as another user (lightdm still active; password field grayed out but changing the user helps). Usually it ends up with lightdm asking for password and then instantly starting to load desktop.

I have indeed the same problem, with many lines like this in my logs :

>Could not call FindUserByName: Timeout was reached

Every step of the process is slow:
 - lightdm takes time to show up
 - lightdm is slow to ask for password
 - lightdm is slow to start the session

It appears you don't have AccountsService installed (open d-feet and look for org.freedesktop.Accounts on the system bus). Can you confirm that?

Changed in lightdm:
status: New → Incomplete
importance: Undecided → Medium

I'm having a similar experience to this. LightDM accepts the password and disappears as if starting the session, but it then takes upwards of a minute for XFCE (in my case) to actually start. Example lightdm.log attached showing the delays.

AccountsService is installed.

This bug is present afaict until you log into another tty: It won't log you in at all until you are already logged in (And seeing as it's primary job is to let you log in it becomes nigh useless)

Logging into a TTY before using lightDM results in an instant login (Which would be very pleasant were it not for the extra ~15 seconds to log into the TTY)

Hackish solution from the ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=11921373&postcount=20

Also a duplicate of: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/accountsservice/+bug/996791

I suggest we all move there since that bug report already knows the cause of the problem.
