Bug Description

Testing the 14.10 daily release. The screen goes blank after 10-15 minutes even though both power management and light-locker settings are set to "never" for both "blank screen after" and "switch off display after". It should not be blanking/switching off at all with these settings.

Please provide the output of the following commands so we can further debug the issue.

grep Exec ~/.config/autostart/light-locker.desktop

grep Exec ~/.config/autostart/screensaver-settings.desktop

ps ux | grep light-locker

xfconf-query -c xfce4-session -l -v | grep Lock

xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -l -v | grep "dpms\|lock"

For this command, we're only interested in the "Screen Saver" and "DPMS" sections:
xset q

Hi Scott,

Since you indicated that light-locker.desktop does not exist in your home directory, light-locker is using the system default configuration which will cause your screen to lock. If you are using light-locker-settings to configure this, please be sure to click "Apply" after any changes.

I am experiencing what sounds like the same symptom, on xubuntu 14.04 - screen blanks after inactivity, even after configuring it to never blank. And it doesn't unblank on activity - it only unblanks when I blindly type my password (apparently the session is locked but the password prompt is not visible).

I was *not* configuring blanking with light-locker-settings (never heard of it before searching for this bug), instead I was using the Xfce power manager (settings -> Power Manager).

I ran the commands you suggested to the orig. reporter, which show that like him, light-locker was running and using the system default config:

pw-xbook ~:$ grep Exec ~/.config/autostart/light-locker.desktop
grep: /home/pw/.config/autostart/light-locker.desktop: No such file or directory

pw-xbook ~:$ grep Exec ~/.config/autostart/screensaver-settings.desktop

pw-xbook ~:$ xset q

Paul, you should use Light Locker Settings to configure screen blanking. The power manager is not able to do this in Xubuntu 14.04 (bug 1193716).
