similar but different to bug 892427, if rabbitmqlayer fails to start, you aren't told why.

this is somehow connected to https://bugs.launchpad.net/launchpad/+bug/883980 and fixing that bug, by unifying layers in the testapp and fixtures would probably fix this too.
