Bug Description

When a bug report is a duplicate, the "Affects" lines should not be hidden, because they are valuable information for helping to verify that the report really is a duplicate. But they should be greyed out, and the statuses should not be changeable. Leaving them changeable encourages people to reject duplicate bugs when they shouldn't.

this part doesn't happen anyway:

would fixing bug # 3796 work for you?

No, bug 3796 is about bug listings. This is about the bug page.

I said "the 'Affects' lines should not be hidden" not because they're hidden now, but because that was a possibility Launchpad developers have previously discussed.

I'll fix this as part of my work on the bug page in the coming week.

Pls don't misunderstand: I'm only trying to save you some work (I think)

if marking a bug as duplicate changes the status to duplicate (as bug # 3796 suggests), would it still be necessary to grey out the "affects" lines? or maybe, the status "duplicate" could grey the lines, just like the status "rejected" does? The latter might be easier to do as part of the 3796 fix.

maybe I am imagining (i.e. misreading) that 3796 will fix much more than what it will really fix.

The fix committed for bug 54801 invalidated this bug as the table is now gone for duplicates.

I think this is a dupe of bug 3176. I don't agree that 3176 is only about bug listing.

As Bjorn mentioned there, the +editstatus would redirect to +viewstatus if the bug is a dupe with an appropriate notification.

What do you say Matthew?
