FWIW, r52 of lp:pygdb should give a more useful traceback if this happens again.
The part that isn't _completely_ clear to me is if the appserver hung before it was asked to shutdown. If it is a hang during shutdown, that's much less surprising to me for better or worse (interpreter teardown is messy).
