The standard zope machinery does deferred sending - mails are not sent
when requested, they are sent when the transaction ends. (This is
still in-appserver code though).

Do you mean 'we are sending >1 message to many recipients'? That would
add insult to injury to the problem.
@Olivier - sorry, no workaround that we're aware of, but solving this
is very important to us.
