Could you attach the output of ~/.xsession-errors ?
Login on tty, then :
1) cp ~/.xsession-errors ~/xsession-errors
2) "sudo start kdm" or "sudo reboot" (depending of your needs)

I've exactly the same issue but randomly.

panel under the Button for Sessions exist only:

-Previews
-KDE
-Fail safe

there are not exist -Restart x -login tty console

in fail safe the Plasma desktop is not loading.... I' m hear the sound
but without plasma desktop.

If you want to quickly fix this issue you should change kdmrc file.
There is a line
HaltCmd=/sbin/shutdown -p now
It should be changed into
HaltCmd=/sbin/shutdown -P now

There is another way to do this is. You can make this through System Settings > Login Screen. On Shutdown tab you can change Halt command from /sbin/shutdown -p now to /sbin/shutdown -P now.

After that you should reboot your computer.

Thanks for the reply.....

There is also the reboot comand : "/sbin/shutdown -r now", I must
change and this to "/sbin/shutdown -R now"

And on Boot Manager says "None" but I'm using the Grub, I should Change
and this to Grub before apply the changes????

Thanks for the support

See http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270228.
Also this bug is reproducible for natty and I can reproduce it.

See the patch and a debdiff (for natty package) in attachment, the patch should be backported to maverick really soon.

@BGGR
Reboot command /sbin/shutdown -r now is quite good.
Boot Manager should stay as is (I have "None" too).

May be I was wrong. The first shutdown after reboot was correct... I need some time to make conclusion.
