This seems to be a long standing issue that has yet to be resolved. It seems to only happen with the Nvidia proprietary driver (I don't experience the issue when I'm using the Intel iGPU).

In response to #10: you dno't have to reboot. You can run:

killall plasmashell && kstart plasmashell

from the terminal.
