Bug Description

Eeschema: Modifying a built-in library component and saving it under the same name in my personal library results in the original library component being displayed instead of the edited version. Edited component shows correctly in the Library Editor and in the browser, but when added to the schematic changes back to the original library definition.

Loaded LM317 component into schematic. Right clicked and selected Edit with Library Editor. Edited component to add a pin for the tab and made other cosmetic changes, saved the component into my existing personal library under the same name (LM317). Attempted to add the new part to the schematic, but as soon as added, reverts back to the original 3-pin LM317 definition in the regul library.

Workaround: renamed part to something else (LM317_) - able to load successfully.

This is a known problem that will be addressed at some point in the future. See answer to question https://answers.launchpad.net/kicad/+question/187619 for more details.

I guess this is the issue with the search order of the libs. One should place their own libs on top to use those.

Why can't eeschema and getpart have the option to use the library in the name as well as the component name. So that instead of just "Component" it uses "Library:Component".

They will in the near future - the schematic library system is going to be changed to match the PCB one. They should do precisely this.

I think I win the oldest but ever fixed in KiCad because AFAIK this bug has always existed since the very beginning of the project. The new symbol library table resolves this issue.
