We recommend at least 1280 x 1024 (http://kicad-pcb.org/help/system-requirements/), although you can get to the buttons on 1024 x 768 by using <esc> and <return>.

That being said I have tightened up the spacing a bit which might help some.

May I propose some organization at "Edit Text and Graphic Properties" also in "Set Track and Via Properties" (the last one to keep the same visual user experience)?

Using a horizontal split should be interesting to both: achieve my resolution (ok, my desire) and also keep a nice UX.

Also, in "Filters" block, the text could be modified to:
- Title: "Filter items by";
- Options: "Layer" / "Footprint reference" / "Footprint identifier"; ( in Text and Graphic )
or
Options: "Net" / "Net class" / "Layer". ( in Track and Via )

The combination of this text reduction with the organization should provide a small and more conscious windows. If your agree @Jeff.

@Hildo, could you put your last 3 comments in a new bug? That way we can keep them as a wishlist item for 6.0. (We're past string freeze for 5.1.)

@Jeff, your changes make the dialog layout look rather cramped on windows. I'm not opposed to them but please keep in mind that supporting low resolution devices is not one of KiCad's design goals. I would prefer that we don't spend time on this unless we can do it without hurting the experience for users on typical resolution devices.

That being said, you could probably save some vertical space in this dialog by using three columns of two check boxes in the "Scope" section and use four columns split by layer and text information in the "Action" section. The minimum width of the dialog is determined by the grid which leaves a lot of empty space to the right side of the dialog.
