The commit linked above is wrong. Differential pair spacing is the minimum space from that trace to the other leg of the differential pair. In some cases (connectors especially) it might be necessary to have the clearance to *other* nets be significantly smaller.

In general I'd say that the netclass copper clearance should be used for diffpair clearance.
