We do re-parent dialogs on the Mac, but only a QuasiModal to its parent document. There's a guard on document close when a QuasiModal is up that "supposedly" protects us from closing it out from under the dialog.
Do you know what window it is that has the stale pointer? Is it a QuasiModal, or a progress reporter or something else?
