The main problem for me is that there have been issues upstream with MSYS2 to setup a proper environment automatically. This is what the kicad-winbuilder does, but it is currently broken, because MSYS2 is broken. You are likely to be able to make it work if you install manually, but if you don't know what you are doing, your chance of success is of course low. Also, if you are not able to differentiate between the msys2 shell and the mingw shell environments.

The bat files have been replaced by exe's in msys2 some time ago.
