I tried to do a make.bat clean and nothing changed (was not quite sure if this was a valid command but tried it just in case).

I then tried deleting the build directory and nothing changed except for a small additional download of some files, it still stopped at the same point.

I completely rebuilt from scratch as suggested by Oivind and it now works again.
