This is a bit strange:
bitmaps.h is included in menus_helpers.h, which is included in menubar_modedit.cpp.

It works fine for me (and not only for me).
And if include bitmaps.h is missing, this is not the linker which have an issue, but the C compiler.

May I ask you to see what exactly happens on your kicad source tree.
At least try to rebuild Kicad after a full cleanup.
