I have tried it in the dapper flight2 release, but not recent. If code
hasn't changed since then, good bet it's still broken.

It has changed _a lot_. Please retest, not just with flight 6, but also make sure you upgrade to the latest -20 kernel.

The kernel has been updated several times since then; please try the Beta
release or newer.

AirVast wi-fi is still broken in dapper live beta. It does get
detected and modules get loaded, but I couldn't get it to associate to
an open network or a wep64 with a known key. The failures are also not
handled very informatively in the gnome network connection interface.
There was no way to see a list of networks either.

I'm attaching my notes, which includes output from lsusb, lsmod, and dmesg.
Note that the errors at the end of dmesg are from trying to work with
the wireless.

Let me know if I can further provide testing.. finally vmware player
allowed the usb device through.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this linux-source-2.6.15 kernel bug to the new "linux" package. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Also, if you would be interested in testing the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release, it is available at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . Please let us know your results. Thanks!

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

Unfortunately this bug report is being closed because we received no response to the last inquiry for information. However, the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta release was most recently announced - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta . If you are able to confirm this is still an issue with this most recent release please feel free to reopen this report. To reopen the bug report you can click on the current status, under the Status column, and change the Status back to "New". Thanks.

I just loaded up the 8.10 live CD, and nothing gets detected. Just the two root hubs and the mouse.

I see p54usb and prism54usb loaded but no devices? I doubt I actually have to install 8.10 for things to detect.

So it seems it's regressed.

Anything else anyone want me to check?

In https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/27422/comments/5, you mentioned that you were attaching output from several commands' invocations. I can't locate them here in the bug report, but of more use would be the same commands' output against the latest 9.04 alpha's desktop (live) image.

Daniel! Long time.. Robi from #mpeg3 EFnet if you recall.. How the
heck are you? Happy Holidays!

Funny you should pick this bug to look at :P

Anyhow, I'm pretty sure launchpad lost my attachment, but I'll look at
my archives.
I can also rerun the commands if I have a list.. this particular
Shuttle SN85G4v1 machine is getting dated, so it may not be worth
fixing as new. It does seem to be a regression though.

This used to work for me in 8.04 and 8.10 but is now broken in Jaunty... Seems NM thinks it's a wired interface because of its lack of standard interface. Strange that we have a regression here. Maybe from upstream?

Dunno: I disconnected that interface (it is internal) to only use a 802.11g
PCI card instead... Sorry!
