I don't understand. I use KMail 1.13.2 (KDE 4.4.2), and I sign and encrypt S/MIME emails every day, as well as decrypting emails sent to me and validating signatures. It all works fine, but that's because KMail uses GPGSM for all its crypto operations, not the SSL support (or lack thereof) in kdelibs.
